Sacraments/ RCIA

RCIA

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is for those interested in exploring the Catholic faith and learning more about the Catholic Church as part of a discernment process concerned with the possibility of becoming a Catholic Christian.

RCIA begins the first week in October, meeting weekly.

Reconciliation

Also known as Confession, or Penance, the sacrament of Reconciliation celebrates the Church’s mission of healing. Reconciliation centers on spiritual healing; it forgives our sins. The priest, acting in the person of Christ, hears our confession and provides our absolution from our sins in the name of Jesus. Jesus has heard our confession and wants us to be healed of our sin and guilt; he wants us to be reconciled with those we have hurt and with our God. As with all sacraments, we receive grace to help us sin no more.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated regularly at the Newman House a half hour before Mass on Sunday’s or by appointment.

Baptism

An older adult enters into the Church through a process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).

First Communion

The holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation.

Marriage

While much time is understandably dedicated to planning the details of the wedding day itself, attention is even more appropriately given to relationship-building at this unique time of your lives. In that light, NH, as part of the Diocese of Syracuse offers three resources to every couple as part of their marriage preparation process. Engaged Encounter Weekend is a further resource that many couples choose in addition to the requirements described above.
